Show Panguitch News I By Mamie Talbot 676-8084 Oh, joy! Rain! Rain! On Monday, July 28, folks in the northeastern section of town did not have to pull their hoses and sprinklers around for 24 hours to avoid burned grass patches. Our July 24 annual rain started a little late. This has been a very busy month with weddings, parades, reunions. Many Panguitch natives na-tives came back home on vacations. vaca-tions. Whew! Now students are thinking about how soon school will start. Paul Henrie of West Jordan came to and took his mother, Shirley Henrie, to Park City for a 10 day visit. He brought her home and returned to spend a week during the Pioneer Day celebration, bringing wife Lynda and two children. While they were here, granddaughter Kristie Hall, her two children, grandson John Paul and a friend, all of West Jordan, joined them. Kae Holyoak and daughter of Cedar City and grandson Mark and Patricia Pa-tricia Holyoak and children of Overton, Nev. also visited here. The high school class of 1940 held their reunion at Ruby's Inn. Present with their spouses, where applicable, were members Allen Miller, Monte Marshall, Mamie Norton Talbot, Edith Miller Barton, Bar-ton, Arthur Houston, Earl Roe, Phil Dickenson, Reed Norton, Bowell Henrie, George Sevy, La Rene LeFevre Bradshaw, Bertha Lister Klingensmith, Jay Hatch, Jean Cooper Solie, Dick Haycock, Hay-cock, Frank and Cecile Houston Orton, Keith Workman, Julia Boyter Steele, Stan Marshall and Arthur Crosby. Almost all class members were members of the clubs of ailing hearts, cancer, lame knees oxygen users, etc. But they are hanging in there. Oh, yes, we forgot to announce that those who would like to see the log finish of the old hospital preserved can call, write or go into the present school district office to make their wishes known. The fathers of many of these class members went to Boulder Mountain over 50 years ago to cut timber, haul it to Ruby Syrett's sawmill to be cut into construction logs then brought to Panguitch to build a community center. This made work for men who were struggling to feed families fami-lies during Great Depression of the 1930's. The log building went up but stood empty for several years as the sons of those men suddenly were sent around the world to preserve the rights of people to live with freedom of choice during the "war years" of the 1940's. May we each stand as sturdely as those logs. The class of 1967 held their reunion on the lawns and porch of Frank Ortons home. Present were members and where applicable their spouses: Gloria Orton Dickinson, Dick-inson, Vicki Haycock Burton, Kay Bulkley Hatch, Mary Lou Marshall Pierson, Kathy Allen Peterson, Madaline Lindsay, Ljnda Dickenson Henrie, Leah Church Park, Shyann Olsen, Helen Young Byrd, Arda Talbot, Denny Orton, Eldon Frandsen, Bruce Dalton , Elaine Farnsworth, Lyle Talbot, Boyd Miller and Bruce Hatch. Teachers and coaches Sheldon and Lucile Proctor Proc-tor and Maloy Dodds visited with their former students there. The married names of some of the girls are missing due to the fact that I can't remember them. Sorry. The LDS Wards in town are in a flurry of wondering about splitting split-ting the three wards into four. We will know more after Aug 3. Barbara Leach has bought Scott Robinsons house for her Farm Bureau Insurance office on Main Street . Dennis Frandsen was ordained a Deacon in Panguitch 3rd Ward LDS Sacrament meeting. He is a son of Kevin and Debbie Henrie Frandsen. Speakers in Sacrament meeting were Brian Foy, Dennis Moser, Bob Veater, Dennis Orton and Bishop Del Hulet. The talks sounded very much like good- (See Panguitch News On Page 4-A) Panguitch News From Page 2-A byes to the congregation. Teresa Hatch and Acey Burningham were youth speakers. Dellis LeFevre has been gone for knee surgery but is home now. Her kids, Alvin and Myrna Gomez, take good care of her . |
