Show Escalante .Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Haws of Brigham City, who are former residents resi-dents of Escalante have been here for the past two weeks restoring the old home of Mrs. Haws' parents, Tom and Polly Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. Rudgar Shurtz of Gunnison visited here. Lois Houton visited the Stanley Liston family. Mr. and Mrs. Arlis Brooks have Lenora Griffin home with them. The Hyrum Colemans hosted the Parley Coleman family reunion at Singletree with over 85 in attendance. atten-dance. Christine Prince, daughter of former principal James Prince is being married August 5 in the Idaho Falls Temple. She will exchange vows with Reece Christensen. Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Donald Poteet have purchased a trailer home and placed it on the Woolsey lot south of Hal Shurtz. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Cottam and Mr. and Mrs. Myrum Cottam attended at-tended funeral services for Marie Roundy in Orem Wednesday. The Karl Spencers traveled to Cedar City Tuesday for the Shakespearean Shake-spearean Festival. Young Spencer Christian has another broken arm. He fell from a swing. Two baby girls were born this week. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Munson have a daughter bom Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Curt Richins also have a girl born Friday. Thelma Walton is visiting sister Laura Baker. Some of the older citizens in the valley were visited this week by John Rogers of Ely, Nev., who is a descendant of the John Rogers for whom "The Roger Mountain" is named. Also in the area were Mr. and Mrs. Ken Allen of Palo Alto, Calif. They are descendants of Lorenzo Wesley Roundy, Sr., David Adams, and Daniel Allen. Ken recently completed law school at Boston and is returning to California Cali-fornia to practice as a patent attorney. attor-ney. Carol Simons spent the week in Toquerville with her parents and to help her mother who is recovering from knee surgery. Bryce Valley Builders have been busy this week restoring the steps at the stake center. Connie Barton of Box 45, in Tropic would appreciate pictures of past Garfield County Queens. She is preparing a display for the state fair which will be kept at the Courthouse. Emilee Lott was named first attendant to the National High School Rodeo Queen. Emilee won first place in personality and appearance ap-pearance category and placed highest on the test. She secured' "Miss Congeniality" to place as first attendant over 39 other state contestants. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Porter and some of their grandchildren have been staying with Blake Robinson. Wanlass Alvey joined his children chil-dren and grandchildren for fishing at North Creek. He slipped on loose gravel breaking an ankle, but is home mending. Helen Shurtz had sister Susie Zobell from Sandy, daughter, Bren-da Bren-da Baxter of West Jordan and daughter, Susan Brown of Provo here. |
