Show Women Invading Domains Of Hales Little by little the bastions of so-called masculinity have fallen before the onslaught of the weaker sex. One by one the strongholds of male dominance have given way as women have explored and found pleasure in the activities activi-ties of men. BUT NOWHERE is there greater evidence that men are going to share their interests with women than in the areas of hunting and fishing. Once, of course, it was a male's responsibility to provide for his family's needs by hunting and fishing for food for the table. With changing times the hunt became primarily a recreational recrea-tional activity, but still men dominated in the numbers taking part. NOW A NEW trend seems to be taking place. According to a recent Nielsen survey, women in increasing numbers are enjoying fishing and hunting. In 1970 some nine million women went fishing and nearly 900,000 went hunting. hunt-ing. Just six years later the number of women who fish had jumped to 21 million, and the number of women who hunt had climbed to more than a million and a half, both substantial increases. THERE SEEMS no question ques-tion that women in increasing numbers have found another once male dominated recreation recrea-tion to their liking. We seem destined to become a nation with more and more hunters and fisher people. |
