Show L Letters To The Editor Dear Editor While I was was was' pleased to see an article about a possible basketball program in today's issue of Points West I regret that it made me sound i like I I. I Idon dont don't t support the College Administration I do s support the College Administration I have never worked in any organization that has assembled a finer group of people as its also have a great deal of respect for the faculty members here I think one would be hard pressed to find a group of teachers anywhere in this country who care more about students n One of pf my roles at the College is to act as a catalyst for new thinking and for change but I f think those who know me well clearly understand that I have great empathy and understanding understanding understanding under under- standing for our College leaders who must operate in a difficult environment both politically and economically There Ther are re times when they are appropriately cautious with new directions not because they are unsupportive but rather because they are realists and know that to succeed we m must t move carefully I am ani p particularly pleased with the atmosphere at the College that allows ws for discussion of differing viewpoints I think this College is an excellent y institution I think it deserves a much better image than it I generally has in our community and I believe strongly that it deserves more support from the State If these views lead me to over- over enthus enthusiasm asni sometimes please understand it is because I love this place and want it to grow and be all that it can be in service to the students and to this community Sincerely Wade W. W Fillmore Planning Coordinator Dear Editor I Congratulations to Randy Foote I and the new executive council The coming year will be a challenge as the College Center construction displaces student government offices Good luck to all the winners I had hoped to see the total voter turnout go over the 1000 mark and we came very cl close se Thanks to all students who cared enough to get involved To the students I would like to add that I am grateful for the support I received I fought hard and consistently Many long hours a lot lotof lotof lotof of personal money and that fell behind was after all well worth it is a great school and we will grow and progress toward the time when real pride will become part of all we do I spoke before sixty classes during the campaign I grew even closer to many of the needs and desires of students Many concerns were considered and they hey all added to my determination to address them as your student body president Two years experience of student involvement involvement involvement involve involve- ment helped me to understand how to approach student issues for the best interest of you the student I wish to sh shar ra a 1 bit it o oc with the new administration To our new student body president I would like to suggest that you work toward gaining a g greater understanding understanding under under- standing of what issues confront nt students During the campaign you approached me and asked why I was speaking about issues You asked What issues there are no issues that I can see After the election you asked me again to tell you what the issues were May I s submit to you that creating good will throughout this campus is isan isan isan an issue Our library has now expanded to its limit To grow more more student desk space must be taken That is an issue Inadequate and outdated training equipment in the mechanics school is an issue More and better equipment for all the 1 trades schools is an issue More computer terminals in the English lab is an issue A closer look at each of these issues reveals even more issues Perhaps one of the greatest issues is how you intend to spend u 96 ooOO of student money in the year ahead Yet another could there be another way to pay for future College Center additions and more parking spaces rather than from student fees Perhaps no alternatives exist Education funds are slim in Utah Budget constraints may force even more student fees to be paid in the future There are many schools competing for those few dollars that are available We need to compete the hardest |
