J t College Center to Blow Its TopA Top M A p To Square Feet r by Shauna Smith According to Curtis Smout the College Center has a great need for foran foran foran an additional level The college center was built 13 years ago to accommodate 2500 students There t are now now over students enrolled for or daytime classes There are two to four meetings per day held in the meeting rooms in in the in-the the lower level said The current building cannot be rearranged to suit present needs nee ds l The new level will be divided into into's s 's A i three parts arts One area will be for study Another will be for st student dent offices The remaining third will be for catering services and banquets The new level will consist of r square feet The be cost will be 55 t. t million dollars The architect is N Neil il of of- r 0 Erickson Associates The project will take from 18 months to two years Completion is expected in inJune inJune inJune June or July of 1988 Smout said Plans are for the construction crew to set up in the field w west st of th the school or in the north parking lot He continued It will be an inconvenience but it is is for the betterment of the school Once the new level is completed complete l the bookstore will expand to square feet The addition will take up the area now occupied by the student offices The skylights now present in the College Center will be taken out to create a balcony effect from the second level There willbe will be an outside stairway to the he s 's second o d level Pillars will be pl placed ed around round the entire building for the finishing touch |
