Uintah placed first at 6, AU TUdcU The Uintah Utes always pride themselves in scheduling the roughest and toughest teams they can find for wrestling met'ts and the number one 3-A team in the state of the Utah, Uintah, did just that as the teams they competed against during the regular season have gone on to great things in the tournament world. Number one 4 A and 2-A champions, cham-pions, Brighton and Delta, were on Uintah High School's wrestling schedule. Brighton defeated Uintah in a dual meet at Uintah High School and Uintah finished second to Delta in a tournament that took place in St. George. Brighton pocketed iU eighth 4 A ci on in row when they defeated c-cr-nd place West Jordan, 183 to 163, ll.llcrrst placed third at 160 12 points. Box Elder's Kenny Smoot won the 105 pound title and Chet Nipko of Alta placed first at 119 pounds. Other first place winners were: Craig Stauffer, Taylorsville, 126; Ron Neff, Hillcrest, 145; Brad Street, Hillcrest, 185 and Steve Neff, Hillcrest, heavyweight. Norton was a 119 pounder when he wrestled Siddoway back in December and Siddow ay beat Norton by the score of 10-4. Norton lost a bunch of weight and won the 98 pound state title. The Utes' Kyle Smuin beat Mike Spencer of Brighton, 4 2 and Smuin went on to place sixth at the 3A meet. Cloward downed Uintah'i Darren Johnson on a pin in the 105 pound match. (Howard and Johnson ended up garnering third place lilies at tht-ir state meets. Scharman of Brighton pinned Uintah"! Richard llorrocks at 112 pounds. Scharman won the 112 pound 4 A state title, but Horrocks dnln'l place at the S A Tournament, but turned in a good Job any way as he won two matches on pins. Funk placed second at the 3-A state meet in the 132 pound class. Mike Smith, 138, Uintah and Jeff Arbon, Brighton, tied at 1-1. Smith ended up finishing In second place at 138 pounds and Arbon moved up to 145 pounds and netted third place. Hodgkins beat Uintah's 145 pounder George Cook, 9-0. Cook ended end-ed up placing third at 145 pounds. 1984 state champion, Hodgkins was upset, but recovered to place fourth. Skudlarczyk edged Uintah's Gary Murray in a hard fought 155 pound match at Uintah High School by the score of 6-4. Both wrestlers, Skudlarczyk and Murray, emerged as state champions. Murray knocked off undefeated Travis Gittcns of Mountain Crest, 14 3, for first place. Bytendorp downed Ulntah'a Rod Hilkey, H. Bytendorp finished In fourth place al 167 pounds and Uin-tah'a Uin-tah'a Rick Porter won one match at the slate meet by the score of 13 0. Peterson downed Uinlah'i Mike Slaugh, 13 4 in the dual meet. Green River, Wyomir g, beat the Utes by a close score in a dual meet in Green River, 29 25. The Green River Wolves also defetted the Uintah Uin-tah Utes, 154 1-2 to 146 1-J at the Rock Springs Tournament. Racquetball meet begins March 9 Uintah High School will be the location loca-tion for an A division racquetball tournament, March 9 and March 16. Sixteen players will compete in the meet. First round action will begin Saturday, March 9 at 8 a.m. and racquetball rac-quetball matches will also be held on Saturday, March 16 starting at 10 a.m. The championship matches should start March 16 at 5 p.m. First place winner will be awarded a $100 gift certificate by The Pro Shop and other prizes provided by The Pro Shop are second place, $60 gift certificate and third place, $40 gift certificate. The racquetball tournament is being be-ing run through the Community Schools Program. The racquetballs are being donated by Basin Sports and the tourney is for A division racquetball rac-quetball players' only.
