The facility was built to proof weight test Minuteman carriages that are used to transport Minuteman missile boosters and individual rocket motors and hold the missile until it is placed and lowered into a silo. The 309th Missile Maintenance Group proof weight tests about 100 carriages each year that in the past could only be tested at the Oasis site on the Utah Test and Training Range. The new facility will save about $25,000 per year in fuel costs and man hours that were spent in transporting carriages between Hill and the UTTR.
