Scott Chambers, 75th Air Base Wing commander, heard about the tireless efforts of the Hill Thrift Shop volunteers, he knew they deserved to be recognized. "Volunteering for your community like (these) guys are doing is so important to our lives and our families' lives, and in my eyes is just a matter of being a good citizen," he said. Under the guise of a meeting, Amy Sundstrom Thrift Shop manager got six of her most dedicated volunteers — Lee Bruch, Renee Cunkle, Tom Redmon, Carole Luke, Janice Walker and Jack Taylor — to the shop recently only to be surprised by a visit by the wing commander. Although more than 50 volunteers keep the shop running, the six chosen for recognition have all been volunteering at the Hill Thrift Shop for more than 20 years and have contributed more than 10,000 hours, and one, Mrs. Bruch, has topped 20,000. To show his appreciation, Colonel Chambers presented each of them with a 75th Air Base Wing coin and his sincere words of gratitude. "We present these to those in the wing who go above and beyond the call of duty," he told the volunteers. "Thank you for all your efforts and for all that you have done for this base. From the bottom of our hearts we really appreciate you guys and L. Epperson 526 fssg 84th Munitions Sustainment Group Capt. Scott V. Fitzner 421st Fighter Squadron Capt. Jack F. Harman Capt.
