societies the past summer she was pleased to say sav that very good work was being done but that it is requiring more strenuous effort on the pat pait t of every member as there is a always ways more work to do and this should not be consigned to a few faithful ones I 1 bishop thos W jones rave gave a report of his ward and bore a short I 1 testimony saying that it was worth more to him than anything else he be had he was very zealous on the work of the ward teachers and im pressed upon them the responsibility that rested on them geo A mitchell quoted the apos tie paul when he said that all ail peo pie had a right to hear bear the word of the lord he deplored the fact that peo people ale have at all times preferred to accept the dead rather than the living prophets and asked the question if the gospel the same now as it has ever been we as latter day saints should consider ourselves very fortunate in living where here we are free front from tyranny and there is so much for us to do to be clean and upright latter day saints and what a bles sing aing if we can be all this elder rudger rodger clawson pointed out the difference between the two worlds we are between and dwelt with pleasure on this the temporal tam tom inhere he drew attention to the fact that it is beautiful even if we do not always see it he advised us to use our eyes and we see nut not merely look to see the beauties of nature and appreciate them for what they were beau ticul as is the temporal world it IS ie I 1 not in comparison with the tempo re ral world that he is everywhere around Us as and oil penetrating us a w with ith its ita been beau ty it if we are in a position to receive it two 0 eielt hes in must go together to make a perfect whole therefore the body mast have a spar spirit to make a perfect whole we were not net whole or perfect in the spiritual world and hod had to be added upon and receive our bodies and it behooves us ua to keep then pure and clean it is the only body we given by the stake officers officer for the visitors vili A genuine jolly good time was en joyed by all for an hour or two when a light lunch was served at the close one of the visitor torb was heard to remark that he had bad been to parties of that kind where one would nearly freeze to death by the coldness but not so in this case SUNDAY MORNING the sunday morning session of the conference opened at 10 30 0 clock with singing of america by the congregation led by dr leonard with the roylance orchestra accod manying pa po nying it was a most inspiring feature and thrilled the hearts of all who were present prea pea L N marsden was the first fi at speaker andee and he expressed himself as being gratified at the beautiful sight eight before him in so many being present at the sunday school session of this conference 1 I am pleased to note the marked improvement in the work of late and it is certainly gratifying to the authorities as well he made a splendid corn com of the national law of the income tax and the law of our church in regard to our tithing there me aie some men who base their religion solely upon one or two principles but this thia is wrong wrone as we should adhere to all the prin cirdes and live up to them as aa near as we possibly can at all times the law of the income tax is compulsory un on der certain conditions of wealth and the law of tithing I 1 is also compulsory if we expect to obtain a salvation in the world to come dr leonard was as called to the stand and said mr br ethern and sisters this la is worse than being struck by a liberty bond his talk was along the line of religion class clam work and the reasons for it and why the parents should support it more than they now do we have been having a most moat uphill pull of it in this city as when we went to the district school teachers teacher there was not of one who was willing to take the matter in hand and teach the students but some expressed themselves as willing to stay in the room mom while else also did the t aching teaching th there the e is one organization of men in the church who can make the religion class work a success and they are the ward a if they will go into the homes home of if the saints and take with them the spirit of their calling and teach the doctrine of re ligion class clasa work it can be made a success by first converting the or ar ants to it elder rudger rodger clawson was next called and although his hia talk was short it was very timela tire deiv and to the point and especially interesting to all old and young I 1 in n the splendid let lesa esons tuis taught by short moral stor lea one particularly pit on barly pointed story k be illustrating the t power of little things i was the story of the small cork king the heavy steel bar at first it made ads no apparent impression but bat a after f ter a time the huge bar began to vibrate violen violently fly and then to wing to and fro this was brought out to illustrate the power children have over us and the power that we unceasingly cea cum singly murly exert over those with whom we come in contact what do we know about one of these boys boya who are sitting in the gallery or how much can we tell what their lives may be do we know anything of what god has in store for any one of them can we tell what any one of them may become 9 the religion class la is the great moving factor tobe to be in the lives of man mans boys boya and girls for betterment and uplift and it is the stern duty of every parent to see to it that they stay slay at school every time it is class day and get the full benefit of it SUNDAY A AFTERNOON sunday afternoon session of the conference opened with pres day dav presiding after an anthem by the choir chair prayer was offered by L W jones the presenting and sustaining ol of the general and stake was attended to after which pres day addressed the congregation expressing his pleasure at the gratifying attendance during the day in part he said in this thia stake there is a very healthy condi condition tune of which we are justly proud and hope to be able to continue so as we want to keep the vehicle going as it is a much easier to keep on going than it is to start out of a chuck hole or over a boulder we want to maintain a high standard the presidency of this stake appreciates your support in thus attending these meetings and we feel that you are with us there is nothing greater to my mind than a service that is beneficial to our fellow men we want the ward teachers to visit the home of every one in this stake once every month and we are not going to be satisfied with anything less we feel that it being only a matter of twenty or thirty minutes in each home it only mease means two or throe three hours each month for each teacher and there is no man so busy I 1 care not how busy he thinks thinka he is that cannot afford to spend that much time in the service of the lord if he will cultivate the spirit of his calling he will know that this work came direct front from the lord and that it is for your good and mine another its item who when the fed erid eral government calls umon udon us for our or money to help the work of fighting the war let us Ls be up and doing with a hearty good will and give or loan it freela if the government wants to borrow our mon on ey let us be loyal and patriotic as patriotic a as we always have been and keep within our breasts that spirit of patriotism that thai we so si highly prize H claud lewis was appointed to talk on the work of the red cross and its organization in iron county the county chapter will be at the county seat in farewell Pa rowan but each of the other towns may sy have a branch organization in part he said the strength of any nation as a civilized nation is measured by the strength efficiency and power of its red rea cross cros organization the county chapter will be organized with a chairman vice chairman see sec detary and treasurer and ten board members this is to be a specia special I 1 red cross Crow christmas throughput throughout the land and the giving of cl alv presents is to be discouraged in order to help out with the war work economy IS IB to be the key note of it all and conservation and saving in SO ev erv cry line ut is to be guarded strictly eld elder er C clawson occupied the re mainker of the time and advised all to give close heed to the remarks remark that had been made we must d do our part pact as loyal citizens se as the e ef f feet of this war reaches iwo nearly every home in one way or another we should say to every boy who goes out of our homes to loin join the army keep clean from the sin aina of the world and from the sine ains of ane army if they do this in the right spirit they will live unto the lord and rf if they die they will die unto the lord and happy will be their death in conclusion he depicted very graphically some of the horrors of the war and what it brought into the lives of many the emphasized the fact that we had a right to continued revelation now as that there is a prophet on the earth now who held the keys of the kingdom of heaven and had the divine right to revelation whenever the lord saw ht fit to send such to his people and we need continued revelation now if ever we did need it because we believe in a god with a body and a form that is isa tangible being and not merely a spirit without body parts or passions |
