Show o UTAH BEE KEEPERS MEETING. i The annual meeting of the Utah Bee Keepers' Association was held in the City and County building dur- J ing Conference week. Among other 1 important maltcris brought up for 1 consideration was an effort to secure 1 .Jlic convention of the National Bee 1 Keepers' Association, to meet here j sometime in September. A' resolution was adopted which will be forwarded to the President of the National Association, As-sociation, inviting him to hold the convention in Salt Lake. It was point-;" ed out that the members who wish- to attend, could secure excellent rates at that time on account oMhc G. A. R. encampment. The officials of the Association were re-elected as follows: fol-lows: ES. Lovcsy, president; R. T. Rhccs. first vice-president; Wilford Belliston, Ncphi, second vice-president; A. Fawson, Grantsvillc, sccrc- I tari Jas. Nelson, assistant secretary. 1 The county vice-presidents were also ' ij , re-appointed. i In a discussion of the wintering of 'bees, Ncphi Miller of Logan said that he was unable to secure as low a rate j as other shippers from California. H-inroduced H-inroduced a resolution asking that the association take the matter up and 1 confer with the San Pedro Los An geles and Salt Lake Route and have the matter adjusted if possible. He did not say that he had been discriminated dis-criminated against, but his resolution implied that he was unable to secure the same terms on a carload, lot of bees. V President Lovcsy talked to the as-sociation as-sociation on the general condition of the bee industry in Utah. He said: "All things considered, the blfc industry in-dustry throughout the state is "In a fairly favorable condition. Whilcj many of' our bcc-kccpcrs have been successful Jin wintering their bees, H some have lost a portion of their I bees. There arc several causes for H this condition, while with proper knowledge, care and attention, much fl of it could be avoided. While some M went into winter quarters in poor condition, the main cause as usuual was a lack of ventilation. If the bees B arc strong and have sufficient venti- W lalion, as a rule they will winter all K- right. "When A. B. and C. winter their I bees successfully and D. and E. lose I theirs, in the same locality, it proves m that it isa subject that needs practi- jr cal investigation. I am pleased to y note that quite a number of old and 4 new bee-keepers in Salt Lake county I are starting up again in the bee in- 1 dustrj', so far with gratifying success. J Many were recorded last year, and f on account of the excessive amount of moisture, another profitable year is looked for, in this and other parts of the state. "Many bcc-kccpcrs have expressed n desire to have the National Bcc-Kccpcrs' Bcc-Kccpcrs' association visit us this season, sea-son, and this is an important question ques-tion to be consircrcd." Several other members spoke along the same lines. Reports were hcM.i, from the various county vice-presidents who told of the conditions of bees in their respective districts. |
