JURY WAS OUT FOR H TWENTY-ONE HOURS Prosecuting Attorney for the Government Among Those to Congratulate Defendant. WASHINGTON, April 27. Biuger Hermann, former Congressman from jH Oregon, and former Commissioner of the General Land Office, was acquitted of the charge of destroying public rec-ords, rec-ords, by a verdict of the jury at 12:40 o'clock, tod aj'. Tho trial had pro-gTessed pro-gTessed for twelve weelcs and the jury deliberated twenty-one hours. Nothing was heard from tho jury-room jury-room after the jury retired at 3:30 yes-forday yes-forday afternoon until 11 o'clock to-day, to-day, when word came that it -was de-sired de-sired that Justice Stafford repeat hia charge to them. This was granted af-ter af-ter brief argument of counsel, and tho next hour and a half was occupied in re-reading the charge, after Tvhich Jus-tico Jus-tico Stafford, who, at 10 o'clock lasb night had sent word to tho jury-room that it would be better at that time to drop consideration at tho case and get some sleep, advised that tho jury proceed to their luncheon before again endeavoring to reach au agreement. The jury, however, disre-garded disre-garded this admonition -and within ten minutes after its second retirement ap-peared ap-peared with the verdict of not guilty. There was immediately a general scene of congratulation in the court room. Mr. Hermann expressed thanks to each juryman, as did his counsel.
