Gibson You forgot to remind me to remind you that Daylight Savings time came to a end last Sunday. Oh well, you werent early for church, were you? You remembered didnt you? I knew that you all had a better memory than I have. The letter from Leslie A. Newell last week, coming to Commissioner Broughs defense was a very knowledgeable letter. Miss Newell, aside from being Commissioner Broughs niece, must spend a lot of time reading Commissioner Broughs copies of the various reports since she hasnt been to any of the meetings that Ive been at and the County Clerk reports she doesnt come to the Clerks office to read any reports in that office. Its either that, or could it be that someone else is helping to write the letters? No, Im sure that Leslie is writing her own letters, she would never sign her name to letters written by someone else. And so it goes. Some more on the political scene. R. C. Smith of Eureka has filed as a write-i- n candidate for Sheriff. You remember R. C. He was the candidate being promoted by Lael Jordan and Richard Brough for race for Sheriff Our the Commissioners seat. Now it is a three-wa- y current Sheriff Dave Carter, Todd Bainter, and now R. C. Smith. Good luck to all the candidates for sheriff, fm sure the best candidate will win this race. And so it goes. Just one more week until the election. If everything works out as planned, we hope to bring you the election results in the morning mail on November 7th. Be sure and get out and vote in the election. In the newscast I viewed, there two commercial segments. One lasted 60 seconds and advertised the AFS student-exchang- e te program and the health benefits of Gatorade. The other last 50 seconds and advertised Doritos and Air Jordans by Nike. Following the commercials, I neither felt compelled to purchase a bag of Doritos nor to send my child to Russia. The PTA inaccurately stated that the total time devoted to advertising would exceed one full day of class time. Times-New- high-scho- Mrs. Chloe Hawkins called last week after I had written my column and told me that she had the prettiest Easter Lily in full bloom at her house. The calendar says its autumn but the plants dont seem to know it. I hear through the grapevine that the Miss Nephi contest will be held this year during the last part of January. That is about 3 months earlier than last year and only three months from now. Senior and older girls should start planning now, and moms start hinting to your girl that it would nice if they entered this year. Lets see if we can get 15 talented young women to try out to be the representative of Nephi in the upcoming year. 1 reteaching because a student missed school to go shopping or hunting. Does free enterprise have a viable interest in the funding of education? A similar question was asked by the U.S. Olympic Committee in Los Angeles. They chose to fund the summer games through free enterprise, resulting in an un- Q |
