No one enters college to cheat. This is absurd. The student is drawn to cheating by other weaknesses which attend his collegiate matriculation: lack of desire to achieve, indolence, poor study habits, social diversions, and so on ad infinitum. The student theoretically registers at the school of his choosing in order to gain knowledge. This knowledge may be translated later into a means of livelihood; perhaps it is gained to broaden the students perspective of life and the world around him. This knowledge is precious. Our lives are ephemeral minute by geologic measure. Thd Dutch philosopher Spinoza said that only knowledge is freedom and power. The assimilation of knowledge and the joys of understanding bring greatest happiness in the world. Websters New Collegiate Dictionary defines cheating as the process of obtaining something is the Snow's Dress Shop Important Winter Fashions for the School Girl from someone by dishonest methods or by deceit. Is cheating the assimilation of knowledge? No. Does cheating add to the joy of understanding? No. Does cheating create self-respec- t? No. Cheating lowers ones opinion consciously or subconsciously, of himself. With the loss of comes the loss of Unfortunately, man is inherently selfish. He lives in his own little world, attending largely to his own needs, however minor, and paying little heed to others. He is selfish enough to cheat his way through some phases of life that he may obtain his own desires. Perhaps the real scholar, who studies assiduously, has no need for cheating. Thank heaven for him! It is pointless to argue that teachers should watch students more closely and that students should report fellow offenders. We know the value of these, actions; they will be more or less adhered to. The important cheating reformation should come from within the offender. It is his job to retrieve selfesteem, to gather knowledge honestly, to become a true student. There is always a day of reckoning. The cheat will inevitably face defeat through some intellectual challenge which he will be forced to face honestly. The contemporary technological age is forcing this Day upon masses of students who are entering colleges and universities. These institutions must stiffen their entrance requirements. The weeding out process has begun. Those who attempt to obtain information by dishonest methods will always fail to meet the intellectual challenge first. self-estee- e. Of course, we dont mean to imply that theres anything wrong with them. On the contrary. But they dont even look like Foremasters, let alone twins. It was eighteen long years ago that Carolyn and Marilyn Foremaster threw open the doors and said, Well, mother, whats for breakfast. Carolyn crowded in a side window and beat Marilyn by 45 minutes. Marilyn wasnt any too happy about this. Shes all the time pullin rank on me, she said. Ive got one advantage though. Carolyn will always have 45 more minutes of gray hair and wrinkles than I will. This is the freshman year in college for both of them and the only place where one can see the twin aspect is in the fact that they both plan on Elementary Education as their profession until something better offers itself, namely, a male. Carolyn was the first of the two to make her debute on lifes stage, so well reveal the vital statistics on this dashing red head first. First, shes cute, and second, shes an A student. In junior high she was on the paper staff, and her first year at Dixie found her counting the cabbage as secretary for her class. She seems to be thoroughly at home on the business end of a piano, and because of this, she is in relatively constant demand as an accompanist for vocal groups and church affairs. When she can find time, shes Mrs. Ashbys right hand man in the business department, too. She has just been selected chairman of the Sweethearts Ball, as if she didnt have enough to do, and shes a member of Lambda Delta Sigma and president of the stake Junior Gleaners. Marilyn, the under dog, seems to keep herself just about as busy as her older sister, and shes cute, too, besides being a top notch student as well. In her freshman year at Dixie, she won the position of Comm, of Amusements. That was, come to think of it, the year the freshmen won the competitive assembly trophy. Last year, she was of the year book. This year finds her in the top seat with some little gremlins under her iron rule. This reporter is also a member of the annual staff, and can say, with due cause, that this years annual will besee.oneInof the what best that Dixie will little spare time she has, she works at Dixie Drug. Of the two girls, Marilyn is the more sports minded. co-ed- Carolyn Foremaster If you cant find her working on the annual, lessons, or at the Dixie Drug, chances are, youll watch her with a basketball and a bunch of boys. Between 2 and 3 in the afternoon, these two busy bodies have a very special activity. They go bicycle riding with Rose Mary Thomas, The reason is that Rose Mary is trying to reduce and she doesn't want to do it alone, so Carolyn and Marilyn keep her company. It seems to be pretty effective, too, according to Marilyn, Rose Marys already lost an inch. Ted Gubler's Barber Shop Located behind Fire Department, across from O. P. Skaggs back. .
