IL oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo A remarkable record of achievewhich has been one of the outstanding factors in tho wonderful growth and development of the section during the past ton the yeurs has beeu attained by Utah Power & Light company. This is company furnishing dependable power service for almost every branch of industry, and lighting for many thousands of homos and commercial establishments in the territory embraced in its operations. The ' territory served by the Utah company extends from Ashton, Ida., on the north, to Huntington, Utah on the smith, a distance of approximateinsouthwestern ly 370 miles; and Colorado the Western Colorado Power a subsidiary- - of the Utah comjmny, , furnishes comjsiny-practically all the electric jwwcr and light service to tho extensive mining and agricultural districts in the San Miguel, Ouray, Sail Juan, La Plata, Montrose and Delta counties. This vast territory, rich in agricultural and mineral resources, with its extensive irrigation projects and industrial activities, presents an impressive picture today as compared with that of ten years ngo. It has developed enormously. An essential part of thnt development has been tho furnishing of adequate electric set vice to the homes, the mines, the .'arms anil the various other diversified industries of this intermountain section. & Light company, Tt e Utah Pow-e-r in supplying this service, has not only stimulated the growth of the has kept pace with territory-- , bu thnt growth a striking example of the fact that thp development of thp community and thnt of the power rominny go hand in hand. Thi- - is particularly true in the lerritoy iiw wn as the companys which extends "Provu Division, from the north boundry of Utah county south to Huntington. In this sotio the company furnishes its efficient tcrjice to approximaely 7500 customers in 22 towns, villages and ) communities. Electric power is to the many large irrigation projects for the pumping of water to the coal mines for their extensive operations to the metal mines in tho Tintic District to the sugar factories, the canneries nnd to keep the wheels of many other industries moving in this particular territory alone.' It has also brought the comfort and convenience of electric service to the home, not only in tho furnishing of light, but placing in tho hands of the housewife the modern electrically operated appliances, relieving her of the household drudgery. The electric range, for example, with its cleanliness, comfort and economy of operation, is now looked upon ns an important part of tho equijiment of thp modern home. The exceedingly low rate for this electric cooking service places it within reach of all. It is a luxury which can be enjoyed by fhe ordinary family as well as that of the millionaire. Ten years ago, wnen the present about was brought organization there were through consolidation, eighteen individual companies serving the entire territory now served by the Utah Power & Light - company and its associated concerns. In a majority of eases the predecessors of the present eomponies were small concerns having limited nnd inadequate facilities for serving tho. public, with no ability whatsoever to respond adequately to the demands for power which were comgrowing indus ing from the rapiill trial needs of the states of Utah, Iilaso and Colorado. Nowhero could there be found a better example of the benefits to the public mndc possible by the eonsolitation of a number of small and struggling concerns into one targe company than is offered bv the record of achievement of tho Utah Power & Light company. Consolidation of n number of small properties, with the consequent improvement and extension of facilities has naturally resulted m greatly increased efficiency in service, without any increased cost- to the consumer. In fnct, electric service is practically the only commodity for which the consumer today is paying no more r days. than ho paid in Ton years ago the entire population of the territory served by the Utah Tower & Light company was 2 to, 000. At the present 'time this figure is 300,000 nn increase of fifty per cent. The number of kilowatt hours generated per year has increased during the fvtst ten years from 220,500,000 to 500,000,000.
