Show JW "Teen-Talkers" OLYMPUS HIGH By Kathleen Hinckley Four Olympus High Seniors have been named finalists in the National Na-tional Merit Scholarship competition. competi-tion. Niel Itasband, Steve Kolert, AI-vin AI-vin Larson, and Jim Rice were among 7500 students who scored the highest on a nationwide college aptitude examination given to 162,-000 162,-000 seniors in 12,500 high schools throughout the nation on Oct .24. The finalists now face a stiff three-hour college board examination examina-tion on January 12, plus intensive screening of their leadership and extra-curricular records by a selection selec-tion board. At stake are more than 700 four-year four-year college scholarships, many sponsored by business and industrial indust-rial corporations. Included are one-hundred Sears-Roebuck Foundation Foun-dation Merit Scholarships and nationwide na-tionwide programs sponsored by such companies and foundations as Pittsburgh Plate Glass, E. W. Woolworth, Standard Oil, International Interna-tional Nickel, and many others. Runners-up in the Merit Examination Exam-ination will receive a certificate of achievement. "Pretense," will be the abstract theme of the coming CAP dance. The dance is annually sponsored by the school's Civil Air Partol, who this year took national honors. Friday, January 11, has been set aside as the date for this purpose. Semi-formal is the dress and couples will dance to the music of Terry Hansen's band. The decorations will lead you to believe that you are in the "city of the future," with silver replicas of flying saucers and other abstract ab-stract ornaments hanging from the ceiling. The selected queen will sit on a throne resembling that of a star. This dance is one of the biggest and best dances of the year and a good crowd is expected. A senior class party is in store for all seniors at Olympus High School. The theme of "Carousel" will lend ideas for decorations and food. Tuesday, January 29, has been set aside as the date and committees com-mittees have already begun work. |
