Perry, a senior at SUSC majoring in business administration with a minor in political science, won first place honors at a statewide PBL leadership conference held this month at Dixie College. He received a $250 cash award from Bonneville Corporation as Utahs Mr. Future Business Executive. The Chi Alpha member, son of Mrs. Marilyn Perry, Cedar City, also placed first in extemporaneous speaking at the state meet. SUSC received a total of 11 first place awards at Dixie College, according to Chi Alpha adviser Doris Williamson, and so is eligible to compete in the nationals for a number of awards. Chi Alpha is continuing its record for excellence in state competition, Williamson said. In addition to the 1 1 firsts, we finished with six seconds, five thirds, three fourths, two fifths and eight honorable mentions. SUSCs record in national competition includes two Mr. Future Business Teachers, a third place in Mr. Future Business Executive Competition and numerous other awards. With 75 members, it is one of the largest chapters in the western PBL division, an area covering Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Arizona, Montana, Nevada and Utah. Representatives included (I tor) front. Rod Perry, Jeff Maxwell, Doris Williamson, Lynelle Irons, Connie Lendt and Scott Johnson. Middle, Brent Hall, Kathy Reardon, Stan Lloyd, Suzette Sorenson and Kent LeFevre. Back, Ron Bliss, Theron Jensen, True Ott, Nina Whittakerand Conrad Naegle. HermiesToo 100 W. I will in- clude Jeffrey D. Maxwell, a junior accounting major from Cedar City, who is a nominee for the post of national PBL treasurer. Maxwell, a former Chi Alpha president, was state PBL treasurer this year. He will also represent Utah as the first place winner in the state contest Whos Who in PBL, an award that brought him $25 from the PBL Alumni Association. Scott Johnson, a junior accounting major from Marysvale, won first place in business communications. He also placed second in business law at the state meet. Another first place winner was Brent Hall, a senior accounting and business administration major from Hurricane. Hall placed first in business administration, first in accounting II and second in economics. First place honors also went to Cal Huber, the 1982-8- 3 national winner in Mr. Future Business Teacher competition, who will represent Utah this year in office procedures. Huber, a senior business education major, is from La Point, Uintah County- Lynelle Irons, a sophomore business education major from Mt. Pleasant, finished first in corresponding secretaty competition. She received e $100 from the Chapter of Professional Sal-Ut- Secretaries. Irons also received an honorable mention in office procedures and third in executive typist. Trudy Hansen, a freshman business education major from Cleveland, Emery County, was the state winner in junior stenographer competition. Chi Alpha Chapter also received first place awards for chapter scrapbook and for its Business Person of the Year, Cedar City businessperson Dixie Leavitt. SUSCs second place awards in addition to those listed above include Charles Compas, a senior business education major from Kanab, in Mr. Future Business Teacher competition; and Nina Whittaker, a senior business education major from Cirdeville, in junior stenographer competition. Kathy Reardon, a junior business education major from Price, finished second in office procedures and received an honorable mention in the executive typist contest. Chi Alpha Chapter was SUSCs Phi Beta Lambda chapter walked off with a total of 35 awards at the state competition this month . honored as the second largest student group in the state. Chi Alpha president, finished True Ott, 1982-8third in Mr. Future Business Executive competition, third (along with Theron Jensen, a junior business and accounting major from Mesquite, 3 Nev.) in executive decision making and received an honorable mention in business administration and in accounting II. Connie Lendt, a sophomore, secretarial major from Cedar City, finished third in office procedures and fifth in corresponding secertary. Chi Alpha Chapter finished third in the statewide volleyball tournament held in conjunction with the Dixie College conference. Theron Jensen finished fourth in business law along with his third place win (with True Ott) in executive decision making. Ron Bliss, a senior business administration major from Spanish Fork, finished fourth in both data processing U and in business administration. Conrad Naegle, a junior business administration major from Cornish, Cache Valley, finished fifth in business communications and received an honorable mention in accounting I. Suzette Sorenson, a freshman business major from Salina, received an honorable mention in job interview competition. |
