Show TfteTfumderbird Thursday May 26, 1983 Page 23 Festival selection process is exacting and demanding (continued from page 21) According to Sandberg, the reason so bright is due to the authenticity and performing Shakespeare just how it was performed in his time. There are festivals all over and many of them perform Shakespeare in modern settings rather than in the traditional way, said Sandberg. She added that the relationship between those in charge of the festival and the college also helps a great deal. The college takes care of the janitorial services and the festival in turn gives the college publicity. The city also supports the festival but does not play as big a role as it did in the festivals first years. In the beginning the entire festival that the Utah festival shines consisted of local talent, but as the years passed the festival matured which called for more professional actors and actresses. Sandberg stated that it isnt uncommon for Adams and those involved in the festival to reminisce about the old days as she calls them. I can remember when our children were little that they were even in the plays, said Sandberg. Tilings have changed quite a bit since then, actors that are selected are experienced professional from all over the country. It wasnt uncommon in the early days for someone to act in a play, then hurry behind the stage and run the lights for the next play, remembers Sandberg. Now the festival hires seamstresses, carpenters, electricians, a copyist as well as many others and the actors are left to do what they do best, act. Ogzewalla has stage presence (continued from page 21) University of Missouri She was one of 16 candidates chosen for the conservatory program there. I was impressed with their warmth. It was the only school I applied to, so I was lucky to be accepted, said Ogzewalla. Ogzewalla has plans beyond graduate school, as well. I want to be an actress or eventually teach. I like performing best. I want to be very good. I think . people have a responsibility to develop their talents. If I have a gift, I want to do my best. Ogzewalla feels very strongly about the influence that theatre has on all of us. Theatre is a marvelous way of having people look at themselves without having it rammed down their throats. She feels that good actors are knowledgeable about many different facets of life and are capable of helping us to laugh at or understand ourselves better.
