Show TO PARENTS AND EMPLOYERS 0 F JUVENILE LABOR The last legislature passed some jlaws regulating school attendance that aro not yet fully understood by the public. For tho benefit of parents par-ents and other einployeis of juvenile labor some sections of tho new Taw follow: I'AltT-Tl.Mi: .SCHOOLS. (Chapter 92, Laws of Utah, loin) SL'CTION 1. Attendance excuses power of superintendents. Every parent, guardian, or other person having contiol of any minor between sixteen and eighteen years of-age or any minor under sixteen years of age who has completed the eighth grade shall be requited to send such minor to a regular public or private school at least thirty weeks each school jear unless such minor Is legully excused to enter employment; and It such minor Is so excused, the .said parent, guardian or other person shall be required re-quired to send such minor to a part-time part-time school or a continuation school at least m hours per year; SEC. 2. 1'lenty for neglect. Any parent, guardian, or other person having control of any child who conies within the provisions of this Act who wilfully falls to comply with Its requirements shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. SEC, 6. Duty of employers. Any person firm, or corporation employing employ-ing a child who comes within the provisions of this Act shall permit the attendance of such child upon a part-time school or class whenever siicni part-time slinol or class shall have been established In the district .where the child resides or may be employed, nnd anj-'perBon, firm or corporation employing any such child contrary to tho provisions of this Act shall bo guilty of n misdemeanor. SEO. 8. Courses of study and sessions ses-sions of schools. A pait-tlme school or cluss established in accordance with the teims of this Act shall provide pro-vide an educntlon for children who have entered employment which shall be either supplemntal to tho work In which Iboy are engaged, con-jllaue con-jllaue ihr genet! dueaion, or pro- mote their civic and vocational Intelligence. In-telligence. Part-time schools or classes established In accordance with the provisions of this Act shall be In session not less than four hours n weok betwen the hours of 8 a. m. nnd 6 p. m. Enrollment ul nil childien between six and eighteen will take pace In tji. respective city schools on Tuesday .Sopt 7. Those ovur sixteen who desire de-sire to work must enroll for part-llino part-llino study nnd must get n permit, to work from the Supeilntondent ol schools for tholr employers. |
