Show Clinmlicrlftlu'el Last Words, Following is the conclusion of Chamberlain's lait letter to the president, presi-dent, which was mostly published in Tuesday's Herald: The withdrawal of tho troops from tho state house will close the struggle will close it in defeat to ft l-rgf majority of lhe people of the state, in sacrifice of tneir rights, in the complete com-plete succecs of violence and fraud. To restate the results which will follow fol-low the withdrawal of the troops from tho etato house, I say, first, it will remove the protection absolutely necessary to enable the republicans to assert and enforce their claim to the government of the state; second, it will enable tho democrats to remove all effective opposition to the illegal military forces under control of my opponent; third, it will place all the agencies for maintaining the present government in practical possession of the democrats; fourth, it will lead to a quick consummation of the political poli-tical outrage against which I have lelt and now fuel it to be my solemn duty to etruggle and protest bo long as the faintest hopes of success could be seen. Very respectfully, ! your obedient servant, D. H. ClIAMBEKl.AIN. |
