Show sergt ralph westover wounded at france idov 24 1918 mr charles westover jr washington utah dear father I 1 suppose you think I 1 am a great one tor not writing for so long a time but shall try and write a worthy one now I 1 left new york on the ath of jul and in liverpool england july 18 went by train to southampton where I 1 embarked tor france landing at havre franco july I 1 spent my days jn training in southeastern france near the swiss border we began to move toward the front in the early part of september was in reserve at the battle of st but did not see any real fighting we were then rushed toward verdun for the big american offensive in the argonne which started on the of september here I 1 was first under alre altogether I 1 saw 13 days of fighting in the argonne every day we attacked and every day wo drove the germans back alter being relieved we spent a few days resting and cleaning up and about the 0 october e were sent to belgium where wo fought alongside the french on the cypres ypres front it was at belgium that I 1 was wounded on nov 3 we had taken the city and was preparing to cross the river when I 1 got in the way of one of jerrys whiz bangs I 1 was sent to a hospital in boulogne france I 1 am discharged from the hospit at and am on my way back to my unit the wound was on my head but thanks to my steel helmet it serious and I 1 am now entirely well expect to be home soon but dont know just when give my love to all the folks As ever your son sergt ralph westover B co M G american ex forces w s s |
