Show dixie the best little corner of the earth company infantry I 1 camp lewis wash my dear mr wallis do you realize that I 1 have been away from st george since the of july that the war haa been virtually won that I 1 never got the chance to go over that I 1 lost my opportunity tor a commission and further promotion owing to the stopping of the war and that through all this I 1 have until now never had either the time or opportunity to write you and thank you for the paper I 1 received from you or to ask you to send me some to my above address from the day I 1 arrived at camp lewis until about a month or more ago when I 1 figured on going to the S at camp fremont I 1 have been training men and being trained myself month ago I 1 got an attack of bronchial pneumonia and have been in bed at the base hospital until today now christmas will soon be here and I 1 shall have to ask you to accept this letter as a christmas present you know camp life is very un certain for instance I 1 found kay booth and herbert milne and june whitmore or rather they found me and tor a time we had each others address and used to have some good times but after a while I 1 was transferred into the division and lost touch with all of them later I 1 found herbert milne again but up to date I 1 have lost both and booth though I 1 know about warre they are in tact kay pro babi developed an xray X ray of me though I 1 tancy he did not recognize me by it I 1 know it is entirely my fault that I 1 have seen very few washington county news issues and I 1 want to ask you to pardon my extreme slowness in writing you I 1 sent mr graham a photo of the company which possibly you may have seen one thing I 1 can absolutely confirm and that Is that dixie is the best little corner of thia earth I 1 have so tar struck thia la the worst corner as regards climate though the are very fine with kindest regards and beat wishes I 1 remain yours very truly carpl B J walters |
