Show I I Council Lends Hospital Support Continued from pg. Commission's recommendation of creating an arterial road that would connect Highway 89 (east of Kanab) with Highway 89A (south of Kanab. The planning commission felt the best location would be starting east at about Hillside Drive and running to about 500 feet south of Kellys Conoco. This would Kanab City and could be used as an emergency route, the comsouth-southwe- st by-pa- ss mission felt. Another transportation need the commission discussed was for an arterial road which would connect the Ranchos with the main body of the downtown area. They felt that the best route would be starting at the intersection of 89A and Kanab Creek Drive, running west along Kanab Creek Drive to Powell Street, then north on Powell to the intersection of 200 South and 400 West. The planning commission also recommended that the sidewalk sizes all be four feet. Bartlett felt that the commercial areas needed to have six foot sidewalks. The council agreed. Ripper stated that the Plan- ning Commission was in favor of "" elimination the occupancy permit fee on new construction. They also recommended that a certificate of completion be given before power is hooked up. Mayor Jenkins said that the council needed to be cautious about adopting Kanab City Master Plan Addendum N'o. 1 Transportation. He felt that the city needed to make sure that these two routes are the very best possible choices, and felt more investigation may be in order. There was further discussion on a possible creek crossing for the arterial and also the ternate route part of town roads suggested impact of the al- in the eastsouth (truck traffic and diverting tcurists from the main part of Kanab) but no tions were made. the matter was tabled until the next council meeting. The council then discussed possible corsequences of reducing all roads to 66 feet. Some of those concerns were for children in narrow residential areas where cars may be parked along the street, and the park- ing of trucks, and some possible restrictions were discussed. However, Brandt Child, from the audience said that when a trucker pays his required fees they cannot be prohibited from using any streets that are supported by Class B & C funds unless they are carrying hazardous materials or create a hazardous problem in an area. Passed a motion by Councilman Bernie Ripper and seconded by Dan Bartlett to ap-pr- ordinance mo- The Planning Commission also had recommended reducing the size of the street in the southwest part of Kanab, which has been petitioned for several time by Dean Clarkson to build rental properties, to 66 feet, abandoning the remaining 16 1 2 feet the property owners. It was felt that this would call for another public hearing, and "" oe 10-2-- amending certain section of the city of Kanab Uniform Zoning Ordinance.
