Show Flying Piece of Red-Hot Metal Starts Fire At Arrowhead Garage A flying piece of red-hot steel started the fire in the Arrowhead Garage last Tuesday afternoon when it landed on gasoline that had been spilled in the removing of a gas tank from a car. Damage by the fire is estimated at $1,000 to the building and $2,000 to equipment equip-ment and material. Two of the mechanics are reported re-ported by MeMn Cox, manager of the garage, to have been working on the frame of a car from which they had removed the gas tank, while one of the other mehanics started to weld some steel on the bench. A piece of the red hot steel fell onto the gasoline and the fire leaped to dangerous propori-tion propori-tion immediately. Mr. Cox states that he was at home at the time the fire started. He was immediately called and rushed to the garage arriving there at about 4 p.m. He estimates the fire had started about 3:45 p.m. and was out by 4:15 p.m. Quick work on the part of the fire department de-partment is given credit for holding hold-ing the damage down. All of the partitions and the work benchs were burned. Equipment Equip-ment in the front office was not damaged other than being smoked and wet with the water. The plaster of the building was almost completely wrecked by the heat and water. Mr. Cox put his men to work immediately at cleaning up the wreckage and work is proceeding with minor delays, he states. |
