Show The Garfield Insider January NTER AIN EN 8 EVENTS WINTER STORM CAUSE OUTAGES TO GARKANE'S SYSTEM Thursday, January 28, 2010 13:11:SrSIDE•LINES -0 By Mack Oetting SIDELINES IN PANGUITCH Garkane Energy Customers in the Kane, Wayne, and Garfield County areas experienced power outages during the past week due to heavy wet snow and ice, which blanketed the area. Outages were caused from snow and ice on the power lines. As snow and ice builds up and sheds from power lines, phases sometimes come in contact with each other, which in turn causes a power outage. "We received some much needed moisture from the storm, which we are very thankful for. However, anytime we receive a warmer southern storm, snow and ice tends to build-up on our lines and conductors, resulting in power outages," stated Marcus Lewis, Garkane's Staff Assistant. Battling miserable conditions at times, Garkane's crews worked throughout the nights to locate and fix the various problems. "We commend our crews for enduring difficult conditions in order to restore power to our customers", stated Lewis. "We appreciate their efforts, and we're sorry for the inconvenience power outages cause." Power has been restored to all areas each day. We did weather the storms better than most utilities in California, Nevada, and Arizona. "It is Garkane's goal to provide reliable power to all our customers. We are in the business of providing low cost, reliable power. We take this responsibility very seriously. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances, such as the extreme weather conditions witnessed this week, make it difficult to guarantee uninterrupted power. We are subject to Mother Nature's forces. This is one factor we simply cannot control. We appreciate your patience and support and we will do everything we can to keep power flowing." With the winter season heavily upon us, Garkane reminds its customers to plan ahead for weather-related power outages. Preview Cynthia's art on line at www.originaltradegoods.com The Thursday game with Escalante was snowed out, however the Lady Cats met Bryce Valley Mustangs, Saturday night in Panguitch and won 48-28. The Mustangs stayed close through the first half 17-18. The Cats got their offense going in the second half out scoring the Mustangs 31-12. Chelsie Barney led the Bobcats in scoring with 15, Shelby Taylor followed up with 10 and Breanne Batemen chipped in 8. The Bobcats go on the road on the 27th at Valley and the big one at Piute on the 29th. The Ladies have a make up game out at Escalante on January 30th at 11:00 and the Varsity at 12:30. The Lady Cats are at 8-1 in Region 20 standings alone in 2nd place behind the #1 ranked Piute. The Bobcats only had one game last week, they hosted a game with the Wayne Badgers. The game played close all the way, with Panguitch holding on for a 52-43 win. The game was closer than the score indicated with the Badgers hanging in there the whole way. Again Eric Frandsen electrified the crowd again with another of his patented dunks. Eric again led the Cats with 17, followed by Brooke Leach with 13 and Miller added 11. On Jan. 28 the Cats travel to Escalante and they host BV on Jan. 30. Region 20 seems to have a lot of really equally talented teams that offer some really fun games to watch. Even Escalante is coming along, trailing BV at half time by only 32-31, Coach Allen will have them ready by play offs. The wrestling match with Kanab was snowed out. It looks like Matt Houston has his team peaking they beat 2A Parowan by a single point on Friday. Next week there will be some stats on the individual wrestlers and how they are doing. Next week they host the usually tough Wayne Badgers on Jan. 27 and have a tournament at Enterprise on Jan. 30.
