Show THE MAGNA TIMES, THURSDAY, PAGE 3 MARCH 16, 1989 Community ij Crowds come to see art at Magna Library iff ighr & KIM FOLSOM Magna Times Assislant Editor Thi.' opening of the Oquirrh Artist Gallery at the Magna Library was a major success in bringing community pride to the area. Many were excited about the quality of the art at the showing. Others commented on how glad they were to see a place to show the artist work in the community. 9 people signed the reception book and it is estimated that over 100 people came to the opening. The crowd was a good mix of Magna people too. Salt Lake County Library official Evelyn Tuddenham and Pat Nielsen were happy with the quality of the work at the opening. Both community councils were represented, as well as all other major entities in the area. Commissioner Tom Shimizu, who is an ardent supporter of the Magna area, attended the opening and was quite impressed with what he saw. Some members of the West Valley Arts Council also attended to get some pointers from the Magna group. Joy Hirschi, the featured artist: Maggie Howieson; Dixie Jones; Jill Moyes; and Bill Pixton were all in at tendance with their work at the opening. Joy Hirschi's work will be on display for the next month and may be purchased. The future schedule of artists on display should be released shortly. One added bonus of the show has been the recognition the Magna Arts Council has received for the project. The group has been spearheading many art projects in Magna without a lot of publicity. It is good that Linda . ?fS f?JJ McGettigan. Maggie Howieson. and other members of the Magnai Arts Council are finally getting some credit for their work. 1 Commissioner Tom Shimizu gets a tour of the Oquirrh Artist Gallery at the Magna Library from Magna Artist Dixie Jones.
