Show SHALL KANAB SELL ELECTRIC effi nan T the town council ol at chanab kanab called a mass meeting thursday evening march 20 to got get tho the sentiment of the ahe people regarding tho the selling sellina of the electric light plant to thel the north american electric gas and coke company recently mr air woodhouse of cedar city formerly connected with tho the dixie power company and now acting tor for the new company met the town council ot of kanab and presented the proposition ot of buying our electric light plant tho the north american electric cola cohe a and aad ad gas company to Is a now new york con can corn cern with large holdings in portland oregon and along alone the canadian border and some time ago bought out the pixie dixie power company and tho the plant at cedar city and are ara now anxious to furnish kanab and the other towns ot of kane county with electricity mr air woodhouse who represents the company said that this new company could furnish chanab kanab with electricity for practically one third less cost than at present that la Is instead of paying tor for 20 kilowatt hours as we are ara doing now this company could furnish 17 kilowatt hours houra for the argument in favor of selling rolling our plant which was brought out to la the tact fact that the present power plant may wear out before it to Is entirely paid for or and because of the lower rates melvln melvin S haycock Hay coch a me member aber ot of tho the council made a trip to cedar city last saturday after the mass meeting to talk to mr woodhouse amille while in cedar ho he made inquiry as their ir pre present ent electric service there and from all he ha could learn the people are not entirely satisfied I 1 present conditions 1 many people here are afraid we wa will not have as good a service as aa we have now while others are willing to risk the service because ot at the lower rates 1 in the seven months the now new pant I 1 has been in operation we have bave had bad excellent service but members ot at the i I 1 town council tell tall ac 1 gone behind about W V of the we still owe the pair fair banks and morse company I 1 the contract with the tha company calla for or payments payment each month of 0 so far the council have not boon boen able to meet these payments in full after paying the operating expenses howver however 0 this Is not biot serious as it only means that under present conditions it will take us ua a little longer to pay for for tho the plant there la Is no dolbi but bat ahat the demand tor for electricity will increase as new electrical apparatus Is installed in tho the homes bomes at present there Is scarcely an electric stove stave in the town iown it Is claimed that a drop of 0 2 cents could be made on the present 5 cent rate for or cooking etc if ac five electric stoves could be installed in the town and used there la is no doubt but what after may when whan the union pacific lodge opens and the frigi datres use more electricity that we will fill be able to make payments aas easier or mr woodhouse will be in kanab the ha latter part of this week to again go over the proposition with the town council |
