November 1st. In those 25 hours, we were treated to two Jazz games (one groancrone Yahoo!); a screaming game between Manti and Kanab in the playoffs; a smooth sailing game with Snow winBYU loss to UTEP. ning against Mesa; and a all teams have their good days and Winning and losing their bad days. While the critics rail on the losers, there is alwas a bigger picture. With John Stockton on the bench with an injury, the Jazz team is learning to compete with rookies. The hardship created walk-in-the-pa- rk tear-jerk- ported the Buddy Walk. While we might be watching more did last year, were getting to watch the making of a championship team. Two weeks ago, I watched Grantsvillc run all over our and I can imagine to watch Templars. It was that feeling is a pittance to what was felt on the field. (At the same time, it was really something to watch the Grantsvillc coach throw his little bully tantrum at the ref for calling a penalty on one of his guys who started throwing punches I mean, comc-o- n Coach! Youre already ahead 35 to 7 whats your problem?!) At the same time, losing a game like that takes the cockiness out of the players and theyre much more likely to remember their hunger to win the next time. I hope they newer forget Grantsville as they make their way up the playoff roster. Snow Colleges team has had their own as well as frustrating victories. It was great to see their opponents play the game to the end and fight for those last eight points to appreciate this tenacity, you might have to remember last year's blow out against Scottsdale with the refs finally picking up the ball and walking off the field with five minutes left on the clock (Scottsdale coaches and players were penalized with unsportsmanlike conduct). Mesa gave Snow College a good game, and Snow won a real homecoming victory! BYU well its one of those, tough years that players and fans won't soon forget. Injuries, freshman players, losing star players like Ronny Jenkins to honors violations and the injuries andor death of teammates to a senseless car accident; whatever the cause, BYU's football program is feeling as thrashed as last years basketball team. Although I chopped up my soap box a while ago, I've had a hard time cheering for a team that so quickly in Ephraim, and the forgot a certain incident with a hand-gu- n way this particular player has escaped consequences by whitewashing his story. Whether the loss is caused by inexperience, injury, jinx, or integrity, each loss is a learning experience away from the next win. And each victory is a reference point for better things to come w hen the victory is the result of honor, hard work, focus and mental discipline. Spanish Fork, and Neil Riding, son "VeT Too"s.
