Kathy Herschberg, who is part of Park City Ambassadors and the co-chair of the 4th of July parade, said she hopes up to 12 veterans take part. She expects veterans from the Iraqi war, the Vietnam War, the Korean War and World War II will participate. She said such an event is important impor-tant since because of the divisive- public events recently. Afterward, the veterans who participate par-ticipate will be taken to the annual Independence Day parade. They will ride the Main Street Trolley during the parade, which begins at 11 a.m. at the top of Main Street. Samples, who is the associate pastor at Park City Community Church, said his remarks on Independence Day will compare Christmas and the 4th of July as SCOTT SINEPARK RECORD Berris Samples being "birthdays to celebrate." He said, though Americans hold diverse viewpoints, there should be unity in the country. "Part of our (patriotism) is being able to question and being able to support our soldiers," Samples said. Deer Valley this summer is also installing a lift that will be called Silver Strike Express. Lake by offering another option. With the installation of the Judge lift, Deer Valley must relocate relo-cate the bottom terminal of the Quincy Express lift uphill about 180 feet, Wells said. Wells said the Silver Strike lift is expected to cost about $3.25 million and the Judge lift will cost about $700,000. He said lift prices are up considerably from previous years based on the exchange rate with the euro and the price of steel. Wells estimates that lift prices are up by 25 percent in 2004. According to documents submitted submit-ted with the applications, the Silver Strike lift is 4,500 linear feet while the Judge lift is 700 linear feet. The Judge lift requires disturbing 2.5 acres through grading and clearing trees, the documents indicate. The Silver Strike lift requires 12.1 acres of disturbed area through grading and tree clearing, documents show. ft Silver Strike and make navigating By JAY HAMBURGER Of the Record staff Deer Valley Resort plans to install two ski lifts during the offseason, off-season, upgrades that will not add much new terrain to the resort but that officials hope will make Deer Valley easier to navigate. The Park City Planning Department has OK'd what is being called the Silver Strike Express lift and , the Planning Commission approved a permit for what's been named the Judge lift. The Silver Strike lift will be a detachable quad running from a spot within the planned village in the new Empire Pass development to a point just uphill from the top of Deer Valley's Northside Express Judge meant to resort easier lift, Deer Valley executive Bob Wells said. Wells said crews have started clearing vegetation in anticipation of installing the Silver Strike lift. He said two new intermediate ski runs will be created with the new lift. Meanwhile, the Judge lift will be a fixed-grip quad running from the area nearby the bottom terminals of the Quincy, Red Goud and Viking lifts to a spot about 500 feet uphill from the bottom of the Sterling lift, which is located outside Silver Lake Lodge, Wells said. Quad lifts carry up to four skiers at a time.
