Before hoisting the state trophy, the local boys cruised to a 10-43 record in the North Division of the 18-team league, then crushed Bingham 14-1 in Monday's semifinals semifi-nals to earn a spot in the title game. They did it with a mix of high-octane high-octane offense, stifling defense and raw athletic talent, said coach Chuck Hughes. While most of Park City's opponents had one or two go-to players, he said his group was dangerous at every position. "We've got a great team. Really great kids," he said. "We get scoring scor-ing from all our players, so it's really real-ly hard to defend against us. They're skiers, they're soccer players, play-ers, they're football players. We just excel athletically, I think." On the offensive end, the team averaged more than 13 points per game, but allowed less than one goal per outing. In Wednesday's championship, Eric Hughes, the coach's son, netted net-ted six goals and was presented with the game ball, but he was just one of three guys on the team who scored more than 30 goals total for the season (Grady Ziglowski and Jason Hornek were the others). Such prolific scoring wouldn't have been possible, though, if the rest of the team wasn't able to pass effectively, Hughes said, and gave the entire squad credit for its championship run. "It was a team effort," he said. Shea calls women's jumping event 'historic' Continued from B-5 Norwegians are fully behind women's jumping and it's growing everywhere.
