Show Veteran Laid to Rest. (Correspondence of Diekkt Mm I Ulisba Averett, of Gleiidale, died in this place Wednesday, October 22nd, after a protracted Illness, superinduced by old age and the hardships to which he had been subjected in consequence of being numbered with the Saints In their early days. He was born in Tennessee Ten-nessee In tho year 1S10. He joined the Church and shared In Its persecutions. perse-cutions. He volunteered as one of the Mormon Battalion, served in the sune and ws honorably discharged dis-charged la California and returned re-turned to his family in Iowa. From there he emigrated with bis family to Utah, and lived ln Salt Lake City until 1&S2, when he was called to Blxey. lie settled in Washington, where lie lived until he was called to work on the Proo factory. From there ho returned to the South and worked two years on the St George Temple. He then moved to Heber City- where he burled his wife, after which he ro.ivcd to Kane County and resided there with his children until his death. Tlie funeral services were held in the meeting house. Bishop Ft J. Cutler and James JLielthead were the speakers. Thee brethren, having had a long acquaintance with Brother Averett knew him when he used to play in the martial band in Xauvoo, bore testimony to his unwavering faith In the Gospel andtheimplicitconfldenceandlovu hehadforthe Prophet Joseph.asalso for President Young, that he would have been willing lo lay down his life for them, had it been required.
