Show LATEST TELEGRAPH NEWS. BLACK BEASTS. Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 10.-A negro accused of outraging a white girl, was taken out of jail, last night, at Newman, Ga., and hung by a party of 75 men. He was tried by the crowd and confessed that he and another man committed the deed. MOBBING CHRISTIANS. Larnica, Cyprus, Aug. 10.-A great anti-Christian demonstration occurred at the funeral, in Beyrout, of a Moslem found murdered and who was reported to have been killed by the Christians. The police sympathized with the mob. Many Christians fled to the mountains. A score of others were arrested, but only one was killed. Further disturbances are feared. BURNED TO DEATH. Collinsville, Va., Aug. 9.-During the absence of her parents a little negro girl upset a lamp on the store. An explosion followed. The house took fire and the girl and three other children were burned to death. DREAD DISEASE. Laredo, N. M., Aug. 9.-One death by yellow fever occurred in Brownsville, to-day. The number of cases is increasing. BLOODY BRUTALITY. Sedalia, Aug. 9.-In a quarrel, between Ed. Adams and J. R. Cox, at Pleasant Hill, growing out of an insult to Adam's wife by Cox, a large number of shots were exchanged. Adams discharged both barrels of a shotgun, broke the gun over Cox's head, and fired five shots from a revolver, hitting him three times and mortally wounding him. Cox fired twice without effect. Adams surrendered. CRIMINAL CALENDAR. Larned, Ks., Aug. 7.-James Paxton, alias Blind Jim, was arrested here, to-day, for killing Storey, a tie contractor at Flagstaff, Arizona, on July 6th. He was held, awaiting the arrival of Arizona officers. Dallas, Aug. 7.-At Bluffton, Texas, on Sunday, a gang of desperadoes robbed several stores, taking large sums of money from merchants. They were overtaken in Hardin county by a Bluffton posse in the act of robbing the place. A fight ensued, in which five robbers were captured and one wounded it is thought fatally. One of the posse was also wounded. Trieste, Aug. 8.-Eight persons were arrested charged with implication in throwing the bombshell into the procession of the Society of Veterans. The man who actually threw the explosive has not been discovered yet. The excitement over the affair continues. Cairo, Aug. 8.-George W. Tanner, a prominent colored politician, this morning, fatally stabbed A. G. Leonard, editor of the Gazette. Tanner is in jail. WAR NEWS. Constantinople, Aug. 10.-The following is the text of the proclamation against Arabi Pasha, communicated to the conference, to-day: "Arabi Pasha having the second time transgressed the laws by taking authority which does not belong to him and having presumed in menace vessels belonging to an old and tried friend and ally of Turkey, is for these misdeeds proclaimed a rebel together with his adherents. "Be it known to all that obedience is due solely to the Khedive who is the representative of the Sultan." Lord Dufferin submitted to Said Pasha a draft of the military convention proposed by Great Britain. The Duke of Connaught, in an interview with the Khedive, conveyed a verbal message from Queen Victoria expressing her deep sympathy and best wishes for the Khedive and Egypt. A council composed of Admiral Seymour and leading military authorities here has been sitting on board the Helicon to investigate the effects of the bombardment of the forts. the evidence of the naval and military officers is that masonry is useless against modern guns but that earthworks turn every shot. A council of war was also held at which the Duke of Connaught was present. Chatham, Aug. 11.-The second battallion [battalion] of the Royal Irish Foot, 775 strong, left for Egypt. Great enthusiasm was manifested on the departure. This completes the departure of troops from Chatham. A squadron of the Household Cavalry has been ordered to Cyprus. The second army corps will be brought to its full strength in readiness to support the corps already abroad, if necessary. Alexandria, Aug. 11.-The formation of the New Ministry will probably be announced, to-day, with Cherif Pasha as Prime Minister. Most of the present Ministers excepting Raglich Pasha, remain in office. Suleiman Pasha will take the portfolio of the Ministry of Religion. They are both partisans of Arabi Pasha. Constantinople, Aug. 11.-At the sitting of the conference, yesterday, the Russian representative asked for an explanation of the the action of the British in occupying Suez. Dufferin replied the step was taken in consequence of military necessity and in order to save the town from destruction and pillage. Vienna, Aug. 11.-The Turkish consul at Bombay has been ordered to give an explanation to the ?? of India respecting the action of the Porte in regard to the Turkish troops being sent to co-operate with the British in Egypt, the news of which has produced great sensation among the Mohamedans in India. A Circassian who passed through Arabi Pasha's camp states, that a colonel, a captain, and subaltern, and 76 men were killed on the rebel side in the engagement on Saturday. He confirms the report of Arabi's bad health. He says 25 battalions and 11 batteries are posted along the Canal between Kafr El Dwar and the advanced outposts. It is reported that the enemy will evacuate the works opposite the Ramieh positions and consequently there will be no attack for the present. |
