Show WHAT OUR CONTEMPORARIES SAY OF US. The Bear Lake Democrat says: The Logan Leader was probably one of the most successful local paper published in Utah. This was due, not only to the abilities of the Cummings Brothers in conducting it, but also in the many natural advantages a paper would enjoy in so populace and thriving a county as Cache. The company that bought it, and will now publish the Utah Journal, is a very strong one in every respect, and it requires no prophet to predict for the Journal a great success from the beginning. We are pleased to note that Hon. Moses Thatcher is one of the leaders in the new move. Utah has no public man who realized more fully the power of the press, and who will do more to aid in exercising that power efficiently and legitimately than he. The Bear Lake Democrat hails with pleasure the birth of the Journal. Struggling for very existence in a sparsely settled and isolated nook of Idaho, and against every influence that prejudice and bigotry can bring against it, and defending the rights and representing the interests of a small handful of people everywhere spoken evil of, the Democrat congratulates its new born contemporary on its more favorable and pleasant surroundings, and views without the slightest feeling of envy, the more important and popular field that the Utah Journal will immediately occupy. |
