Pioneer Days organizers have kept Brooke busy with poster signings and event activities. Family members say that they have been riding a wave of excitement. Brooke is the daughter of Alan and Willow Buttars of Huntsville. The eighth grade Snowcrest Jr. High student says that her favorite subjects in school are Art and Drama, her favorite food is artichokes, and that she enjoys swimming, and playing the violin and the piano. Artist Steve Johnson, whose reputation as an artist has been steadily growing, is also a Huntsville native. He RED CROSS cont. from page 1 Residents from Northern Utah can do their part to help in the war on terrorism. “Quality-of-life items will serve an important role in uplifting the morale of our military members in Afghanistan,” said Marcie Bench, casework coordinator for the Northern Utah Chapter. Individuals, local churches, schools, and other civic groups are being asked to: Brooke Buttars Johnson entered the painting of Brooke in a contest held by the Ogden Pioneer Days committee last spring. The committee was trying to find a local image they could use in their Pioneer Days marketing campaign. Johnson’s work was selected in April. Since then, hundreds of posters, thousands of marketing cards, and, of course, the billboards were all printed with Brooke’s image. Bielik stated that the posters have been so popular that they had to order a second printing of them. Johnson states that his success in capturing the winning piece of artwork can be contributed to Brooke. “Luckily I found the best model, so of course we won! You have to have a good reference to have a good painting.” Donate a box of items from the list below. Bring your box to the post office to have it weighed. Find out how much it will cost for priority shipping. Do not seal your box. The Red Cross staff must inspect all packages. Bring your box of donated items with a donation for the amount of postage costs to 2955 Harrison Blvd., Ogden. Within a few weeks the troops can be enjoying a little bit of home.
