The big prize of the day went to R. J. Irvin of Salt Laks City when he won the boat and motor. Two young fellows and a gent who should be the top fisherman in the state, Marion J. Madsen, superintendent su-perintendent of fisheries for Utah, took the honors In the easting competition com-petition which Included about every type of casting a fisherman would use. ,.-( Those 'who won honors along with Madsen were George Kunkel and Gean Snow, both of whom have come up fast In the casting business in the last year or so. A note of seriousness was Injected Into the big family affair when Jack Clay, chairman of the fish and game commission, and F. C KozloJ of the forest service both pleaded for fishermen to guard against fires In the coming season. "Plenty of areas are dry right now," Koziol said, "and if all fishermen fish-ermen will remember that fires hurt fishing worse than anything else they will be careful." Clay, who also is Salt Lake county fire chief, pointed out that even in the lowlands, grass fires can ruin an the good work of sportsmen. "One grass fire can wipe out dozens of pheasant nests and probably hundreds of eggs or young' birds we could be shooting at next fall," day reminded. |
