Show Three Peaks orienteering meet to begin BY KRISTINE GARNER The SUSC Army ROTC and the Association of the United States Army Club are sponsoring the first Color Country Orienteering Meet Saturday. Beginning at 10 a.m., the meet will take place west of Cedar City at Three Peaks. The public is invited free of charge. Orienteering combines map and compass skills, physical stamina and land navigation techniques into an international sport of skill. The teams will need to find specific points on the map. Once the teammates find their point of destination, they mark their maps with stickers they obtain at the map points. The meet will consist of three courses for varying degrees of skill. ROTC cadets will be d to assist the participants in case anyone gets lost. Plaques will be awarded in each category for first, second, and third place. An expert from the BYU ROTC program will be on hand to explain orienteering techniques before the meet begins. Any scouting group or club on campus is welcome to participate in the meet. Groups need to with the ROTC department in South Hall or call 586-792There is no entrance fee to compete in the meet. However, will be available at the meet for $5. Participants are timed as they try to locate a series of control markers shown on a topographic map, using a map and compass. Plaques will be awarded. TO LOCATE THE MEET. Simply follow the orange and white signs starting at the top of the Center Street overpass in Cedar City.
