THE PRESENT TAX LAW the third plank of the republican platform reads that in addition adli tion to the present provisions visions of law daiv giving to county courts the tight katto to remit the maxs of the poor anti and infirm persons pe reone we favor tile p asage of a law lav CX exempting eMpting from taxation tile the property of widows where the same inea not exceed in value the sum of 0 WOO 1000 this tax question is one in which wo we aro are all interested more or less bit since it comes up in the courso course of a political campaign atit ua u examine into it and ascertain if possible who is responsible for our oar present tax laws in the first place the bill requiring high of property was introduced by james T leammond and it received the support of all the cache county members of the territorial le I 1 lature at the time the bili was introduced and the present law enacted cache county was represented by james T biam mond joseph II and an d 0 F olsen it is needless to add that those these men are all republicans today the county court now has the right to remit taxes levied poor willows widows as well as those levied upon tho the infirm and indigent and i is a well known fact the county court exercises that liht right under the law ian as it now nour reads so it seems that the only object of the third plank in the republican platform is to force its candidate for the council mr hammond to explain the course he took the last time he be was in the le legislature 0
