committees now at work on the big affair energetic students and faculty members under the direction of miss simons have alre already ady begun the huge project and the date is set for april 30 the central idea of the lete fete f will revolve around the old english custom of welcoming the return of spring A delightful combination of pageantry music drama d nia and dancing with the crowning of the spring queen as a climax will recall the days of chaucer and merrie england the idea of the plot is taken from a similar festival presented at the university of ames rowa iowa granting that the weather will permit the entertainment will be staged in the open air utilizing the natural nat ural setting formed by steps of the school building the broad cement walk and the lawn the circus circular ar plot of ground adjacent and to the east will serve as an ideal place for the audience the underlying derIving un amative for the festival is to r raise ise funds for the tennis court which each school awaits the outcome the announcement of the school that is to receive the large silver loving cup which for so 0 o long has been an object of admiration tuesday morning the students were assembled in the auditorium to take the test that was to measure a years progress in the mechanics of english now they are looking forward for vard to sat arday day april 17 when the contest will be judged the test was given to the monroe students wednesday and thursday to the salina school punctuation grammar and spelling are the fundamentals emphasized in the test series their use in the schools at minneapolis minn was considered valuable supt bupt ashman has found them just as nr worthwhile worth orth while in fil the schools of sevier county graduation speaker chosen meeting was as held by the seniors for the purpose of deciding deci ding who was to be the graduation speaker this year several very competent speakers were suggested but the class finally decided upon president harris of ahe t he brigham young university the seniors will feel very fortunate if it is possible to secure resident president P harris harri s as a ls s speaker some discussion took place as to whether monroe and P richfield ich field might have the same sp speaker alar this would hive have meant that richfield boull hold commencement ey thur thursday mg night ht and monroe friday the s plan was decided impractical however as this would inconvenience tile the speaker bv asking hirn him to remain two days the two schools will each choose a speaker sp aker and commencement exercises e ramsay nelson principal goldbranson of the richfield junior high gave a short but rousing talk urging the students to make the most of the few weeks of school remaining the program was concluded by two modern modem piano selections played by virginia B larson year book sent to press the hazy vision of cloud filled corridors and the gradual development of the cloud particles to a well formed well organized year book presented in the year book assembly has since that time proved itself a dream come true monday the reading matter was submitted to the staff for proof reading tuesday tile the pages were returned to dr markus to be printed he states that the cuts are here from san francisco and that all printing will be finished at once the books will then be sent to salt lake city for tile the final process of binding every effort of the photographer printer and staff has been spent to make the R H S year book place in the national contest before tile the first of may the students will have to start digging into their pockets for the second and final payment for within two weeks the year books will be going the rounds among friends to be filled with coveted autographs more jewels added to commercial crown rubies pearls and a sapphire sapp hiie are the brilliant stones that adorn adom the crown of honor of Ri richfield clifield highs commercial department each week additional gold silver and bronze brona e pins and certificates make the crown more weighty seven students have won exceptional awards from the underwood company dorothy clark won a sapphire pin for making ninety words a minute for fifteen minutes which is the highest abaid received by any high school in the state una peterson has just received a ruby pin for making eighty words a minute for fifteen minutes harding jensen gladys carron anne neill dena winkle and lora peters were each awarded a pearl pin tori for making seventy words a minute for fifteen minutes miss carron is the first year student who won the trip tri P to new york at the lecent contest at provo besides these high point honors there have been awarded in the department part ment twenty gold old pins sixty silver pins seventy severity three bronze bronz e pins pi ns and fifty one certificates all of the students have the awards pr preceding their highest this is an unusual average for a high school mrs believes met the monroe pine nine on oil the baseball diamond on two occasions last week wednesday at richfield and friday at Monr roe both games were won by the momoe team wednesday maikel the completion of half the baseball schedule when the R H S boys dropped the t he hard fought game to the monroe nine by a count of 9 to 4 it was the third game of the season and though the richfield team haert had much practice the game was much more hotly contested than the score would perhaps indicate the interesting inheres tino and exciting citing features of the contest were the excellent in fielding and score in favor of monroe new bell system in high school at last t there is to be no mole moie misunderstandings because the bell heard in the lower class rooms for the new electric bells have been installed and are working the bell system S includes two bells one on the main floor the other on tile the lower floor which are connected by an electric wire although there are only two bells installed at present it is is certain that one will be placed on the upper floor before school sell ool begins next fall this new bell system is very advantageous vant ageous to students and teachers richards acted as judges the tally at the close of the contest was 54 31 in favor of richfield high seminary receives new books one hundred valuable books donated by patrons of the seminary are arc now contained in the new seril seminary inary library A new case has been provided at the expense of the seminary to keep the books in among these books the most notable are the dictionary of the bible by hastin hastings rs complete in one volume the bible dictionary by Dum and the history of joseph smith high school students and glee club participate in recital eleven of the Ri richfield clifield high school students together with the glee club participated in mrs anna Calla ways piano recital given in the high sell school auditorium thursday april 8 the high school students displayed much talent both in a vocal and instrumental way and are to be complimented on their splendid work the girls glee club which assisted mrs callaway did exceptionally exception all N well well the goats last thursday afternoon the ever R ready eady club held open house for a few of the sophomore and freshmen girls out of seventeen girls there four were selected for membership A short program consisting con sistig of songs piano selections and readings was enjoyed and light refreshments were served directly after the entertainment the ever readies held a meeting in ill whiple which they selected helene bean both christensen tess heppler a and nd gae ogden for their new members or goats the goats will be required to obey all orders of members of the club until their initiation next fall plays and contest stimulate thespians within the next three beeks all thespians will be given an opportunity to show their ability as actors two more plays have been cast so the entire club will appear behind the footlights the dear departed and the ghost story are the new plays chosen the rector cast continues to be busy club members are also ambitiously working on the state public speaking and dramatic reading contest the subject for the speech contest will be some phase of the problem of crime in in the united states tile the reading contest will be on penrod bureaus plan costume and pin though the club has just recently been organized the pins have been ordered and the costume fully decided upon the pin is the block B and the uniforms planned in the club colors lack black b and
