W K Wright Infantry in March 1891 It has now been in s success success- successful ful operation for a little over two years and although a number of f the students have thought at times that the drill was a hardship the general opinion seems seems- t t f w 0 j to be that the the department has been valuable to the University in teaching r students obedience to orders and courtesy towards their superiors It has furthermore been an incentive to the members of the battalion to carry themselves themselves themselves them them- selves in a soldierly manner and that way has improved the appearance of many individuals to o a marked degree About three hundred different students have taken the drill The uniform has proved a decided success and with care a single suit has lasted two years with almost continuous wear The f officers of f the the three companies of the battalion during the past year were as follows i RANK CO COMPANY PANY A A. S Army Register w Commencing with the fall all term 1893 drill will be compulsory for but two years of a students student's course and no reason except physical inability will willbe willbe willbe be received as sufficient to to excuse a student who has not completed his two 4 years' years course Those students des desiring 1 ng to continue drill beyond the two year years years' course will register for it as for a study and will receive credit for work done doneas as if it were classroom work The The battalion has been in but two competitive drills but was fortunate enough to win in both It has been inspected twice by an inspector sent by bythe bythe the War Var Department and both inspectors expressed themselves as gratified at atthe atthe the progress progress made I Drills have been been had in accordance with infantry and artillery tactics and instruction has been given in military signalling During the past winter lectures were de delivered vered by VV Wright right on the campaigns of Napoleon and other the subjects subject j |
