The Governor noted that the assemblage of aircraft, vehicles, and cash is an example of the states commitment to aggressive and effective drug interdiction projects. Utah has received national recognition as one of the most successful states in combatting interstate drug smuggling operations. The money and other assets will be put to good use by state government law enforcement departments. I understand very well that the police officers cannot be in several places at once, and cannot see everything, but perhaps we need to increase the police force, so that problems like this wont exist. It will be too late when someone has a serious wreck or is killed by a speeding car in n area that is posted for 35 mph. Lloyd Mullican Thanks for quick action To The Editor Thank you for pursuing correction of the Utah Foundations August 20th report on the impact of thePeoplesTax and Spending Limitation Amendments initiative to Sevier County Government. It is clear now that the discrepancies in their first report stem from their use of outdated, 1986, tax figures without attributing them to that year. I note their revised projections are updated to 1987 tax collections. Perhaps a truer picture could be drawn using our countys 1988 budget and tax fig7res. Those are the figures our elected county officials are currently using upon which to base their decisions. I agree with the Utah Foundation that the impact of this initiative depends upon the point from which it is measured. Please note that no portion of this initiative, when passed, will become effective until the fiscal year beginning after December 31, 1988. DEDICATED EFFECTIVE DM 7ERIENCED Dear Editor: On August 22, my wife and I rove through the Eastside cemetery and were shocked at the shape the grass was in! The grass was overgrown to a length of 6 to 8 inches and looked terrible! We have family buried there and we have lots there and when we bought those lots, we paid for perpetual care. It is certainly not receiving that care, and I would like to know why. Another thing that I consider to be a problem is speeding cars in areas that have 30 mph speed zones. Dr. Boggess will be in his office on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 p.m. as a convenience for those who are unable to see a physician during regular office hours. The Interstate Commerce Commission has approved the merger of two railroad companies, the Southern Pacific Railroad, and the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, saying the action will preserve viable and healthy competition in the nations railroad system. Senator Jake Gam who has been encouraging the ICC to make a determination on this merger since 1985, said The decision brings to an end a long standing matter that threatened to reduce competition within the industry and cause hardships for Utah shippers whose transportation needs would have been severely curtailed. If the proposal had been denied, Utahs shippers would have been limited to one single line transcontinental railroad to transport their products to the Midwest and West Coast 4 Intermountain Health Care sets up physician practices in many rural areas as a way to induce more physicians to locate i these areas.
