Show Utah driver licenses redesigned Mak Contributing Writer Leslie Conder Community Reporter Nov I 1 the Department of Public Safety started issuing newly designed state identification cards with up- up to-date to security features The cards will better guard against counterfeiters I 1 just renewed my Er 4 1 L drivers driver's license said to soon-to-be student Brandon Christensen The new look reminds me a lot lotof lotof lotof of other states its it's sort of ofa a shame we arent aren't unique anymore The new look applies to all Utah drivers driver's licenses driving privilege cards temporary paper identification cards and regular identification cards s st t Each cards card's background has a security design and gradual color change In the background is a smaller ghost portrait with overlapping data On cards for those under 21 the ghost portrait is highlighted in red and for those under 19 in blue Adult cards will remain horizontal and minor cards will remain vertical V 1 F 11 w j IDILL If A i f J The Department of Public Safety has also introduced a new identification the Driving Privilege Card for those who do not qualify for a Social Security number This card has a large P over the state seal sealand sealand sealand and is valid for up to five years with legal presence Redesigned Licenses Continued on page 5 f no r Pl P- P l Utah Redesigns license Continued from page 1 I and one year without All cards have a laser perforation that spells out OLD All cards include an an Optical Variable Device which appears on the surface of the card forming an outline of Utah that contains the letters This feature is prominent when shown under light The temporary paper document is now printed on a new security paper with an arch at t the e top The gradual color change known as Split Fountain is on the temporary paper identification The old temporary document did not utilize many of these security features It is great that they are keeping licenses safe and protecting people from counterfeits Christensen said Due to fraud the Ameri can Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators highly recommends that states update security features on identifications every five years In the past identification renewal has been available through mail or Internet but that may end forcing people physically go to the Drivers Driver's License Division to stand in line to receive new identifications I All states must comply i with federal law of license standards by May 8 2008 i f I I i |
