PLEASAN- T- Sanpete County is about to take a step back in time as Mt. Pleasant. Spring City, Ephraim, Manti and Gunnison are gearing up to celebrate Christmas "the way" complete with light displays along their historic main streets, sleigh rides, parades and pageants. All of the decorations and festivities will center around the theme, "The Way Things Used to Be. The celebrations are sure to have people reminiscing about Christmases spirit is all about: families being together, sharing, enjoying each others company and the community," he says. Mt. Pleasant City will officially launch the holiday celebration Friday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. when the lights on its historic Main Street will be switched on and a 120-fopine tree at the end of the street will be decorated. In addition, every shop along Main Street will have store displays like those seen in the old Currier and Ives lithographs, Bona says. Hot chocolate and other refreshments will be served. Spring City, Ephraim and Manti also will have festive main streets that center around the historic theme, as well as deco ot rated stores and businesses. Stores and shops in all of the d cities will provide items and gifts. On Saturday, Dec. 6, there will bed and be tours of breakfasts ' in ' Sanpete County from 10 a.m. to 5 p.tn. Each bed and breakfast will be decorated for the holidays and serve refreshments. On Dec. 6 and 7 Snow College presents, "The Messiah" at 7 p.m. at the Ephraim Stake Center. Monday, Dec. 8, there will be an evening Christmas parade hand-crafte- complete with lighted floats Manti beginning at 6:30 p.m. The parade route will follow Mantis Main Street. Chili, hot chocolate and cider will be available at The Manti House and thg History House will have an old- fashioned Christmas display. In addition, there is snowmobile riding, ice skating, sledding and other winter activities available at local vendors in each town. Winners of the annual Pleasant Creek Nursery Pumpkin Contest are Whitney Peel, 9, took first place winning $50, and Jessica Peel, 7, won second place for $30. PLEASAN- T- Main Street will take on a Currier and Ives Christmas card look on Friday, Nov. 28, when the lights click on and a 100 foot lighted Christmas tree towers above the town on the comer of State and Main Street. According to Lions Club Program Chairman Jon Schuhmann, the lights will go on at 6 p.m., followed by a Miss Utah presentation at 6:10; and a singing group from Wasatch Academy. A Sanpete County Theatre group will perform, "Sanpetes Littlest Angel", and the Lions Club and VFW will serve free hot chocolate, cider and cookies. "This is a great night for kids and grandkids," Schuhmann says, "and the entire town is encour" aged to attend. Mt. Corporations can help in this project by sponsoring a school class project, offering to set the starting bid on the school class pinata, or simply to donate a specific sum to the festival which would go directly to funding programs which help children in this rural county. Pinatas sell for various amounts, depending on the size and creativity. They enhance the holiday atmosphere of the office or home. n, |
