INLOW'S burst into poesy from his hisa a ascetic quarters in the county j jail il is happily in harmony with all an poetic tradition It has ever cyer been thus the Muse r rarely rely reaches sublime heights when fettered l with luxury and win winged ed Pegasus if stall fed loses his metrical grace Downy cots and rugs s of velvet et pile have ha never produced a bard to equal Jut l those whoso whose flights of rh rhythmic beauty were win winged from a lonely garret The gifts of the gods were neer ne'er b bestowed towed upon tIle the favored I son of fortune Adversity and suffering arc the crucibles in which the dross of materialism is separated from the thc pure I sold gold old of be beautiful 11 thought The Thc prison cell ceU has long been the lo l lowly Olympus whence the songs of genius have flown lown into tho the hearts heart of men It probably would surprise e Sheriff Smith to be accused ac ac- ac of being greater even en than a poet yet et he be must endure the accusation because he has made a poet Had not the resourcefulness s of Murderer rul lulow Inlow compelled compelled com corn polled his deprivation of all tho luxuries from front which he lie might mig fashion means of escape tho tim flame of genius genius gen gen- ius might have burned all undiscovered cred in his breast By shearing the hitherto unknown bard of the tho enervating enervating ener ener- fetters that clog clot the poetic spirit tho the sheriff released his metrical imaginings and gave them free rein One could wish however howe that if mattresses and pillows form an antidote n against further flights flights' into the rarefied atmosphere of poesy that the tho sheriff mi might ht supply them The community i is not unfamiliar with the literature that emanates from men whose hands are arc red with the tho blood of their fellows It has lies had a surfeit of that sort of thing The sheriff is to be complimented for his precautions precautions' in keeping Mr Inlow safe but if tho the result is to be further literary literary literary lit lit- efforts one ono feels like suggesting a prompt restoration of all nIl his luxuries
