Show Youth killed in train mishap FARMINGTON What was supposed to be a carefree day I of fishing turned into tragedy for a Centerville family Monday. R Ten-year-old Stephen Numbers, son of Ralph and Judy Num- fl bers of Centerville, died eight hours after being struck by a train fl about 100 feet north of the Farmington State Street overpass, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Maguire. The youngster apparently was walking on the west set of tracks when the train brakeman saw him and blew a warning whistle, the patrolman said. Because of obstruction from the overpass the boy wasn't visible until 30-50 yards away. The train was traveling about 50 miles an hour. The boy apparently tried to beat the train across the track and was struck by the lead engine, Trooper Maguire said. The youngster was rushed bv Jr Med helicopter to Primary Children's Chil-dren's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at about 8 p.m. |
