Show ! EX-ALDERMAN DEAN'S OFFENSE. i j The Grand Jury Making It Warm (or Him Polygamy as Well as U. Ci Ex-Alderman J. H. Dean, whose protestations pro-testations of innocence have been sounded on every hand since his arrest, has at last been shown up in his true colors before be-fore the Grand Jury. The Wood family, who were brought I down from South Bountiful yesterday, didtiot appear to have been trained as thoroughly as some other witnesses in this interesting case, and the result was that some very damaging evidence was brought but. It was ascertained beforehand before-hand by Marshal Ireland that Dean was in the habit of taking his periodical horseback rides out in the country, and a few days ago it was learned that those visits took him to the home of his second wife's sister, Mrs. Wood, but through some misunderstanding as to the locality of the house the deputies did not reach the underground retreat of the missing Florence until it was too late. . It is admitted by the Wood family that Florence has been stopping at their house for a considerable time, and that Mr." Dean has frequently visited her there. They also state that he came out to their home last Tuesday night and took Florence Flor-ence away with him, since which time they have not seen her. It is understood that evidence of a great deal more damaging character than this has been established, and that the Grand Jury has not only made, out a couple of indictments for unlawful cohabitation, cohab-itation, but has actually Droven the crime of polygamy against him. There was a report heard this morning that his bonds of $3,000 would be immediately doubled, or at least largely increased, and that the prosecution would proceed ahead with the case regardless of the absence of Florence Ridges Dean. Of course it M-as his father that the officers should have arrested, and not an innocent young man like himself. |
