Show DeatK of (.ciicral ICowlcy. Chicago, February 10. After quite a leg illness, General J. C. Kowley died yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, at the residence of his sister in this city. General Eowley became be-came widely known on account of his position posi-tion as secretary to General Grant, with the rank of Brigadier-General during the last years of the war. In 1864 he returned to his home at Galena, 111., where he has since resided until his health failed him, and he came to Chicago. For a number of years he served as judge ot the county court at Galena. ' |
