Show U some Sweet Experiments. . ' Washington, October 20. The : experiments experi-ments made by the Commissioner of Agri- j I culture in regard7 to sorghum cane at J I Ottawa, Kansas, have been conclfided. . i Prof essor Willey, who had charge of the experiments, ex-periments, has made a preliminary re- port to , jiihe commissioner, from which the following facts are taken: The yield "(Jf sugar from the cane was nJbrenhah 99 per cent., only 12-100 of 1 per cent, being left in the waste waters and exhausted chips. The yield of crude sugar (that is as it comes from the vacuum pan) went as high as 230 pounnds per ton, or, at 12 pounds per gallon, 23 gallons per ton. This is fully double that of ordinary methods. The process of carbonization; I that is, adding a large exoess of lime to the juice and then precipitating it with carbonic car-bonic acid, was completely successful. |
