Show Starving1 Canadians. Ottawa, Ont., March 31. Advices from St. Johns, Newfoundland, report that in the history of that colony destitution has not prevailed to such an extent as at present. Hundreds of families are on the verge of starvation, being entirely dependent on local charity and government aid to keep them alive. The Premier has introduced a bill in the Provincial Legislature for the encouragement en-couragement and extension of agriculture. It aims at appropriating certain lands for the use of any portion of the fishing population popu-lation who may be resident in certain localities locali-ties where no land can be cultivated, and who desire to change their residence for another an-other in which they could combine fishing and farming. |
