Sounds can be understood in the narrows nar-rows of the Grand Canvon of the Colorado for a distance of eighteen miles, or in other words, if a man in one end shouts "Bob!" the man at the other end can plainly hear the echo. . The whistle of a Colorado steamer can be heard from El Dorado canyon to Weaver-ville, Weaver-ville, the head of navigation, a distance of seventy-eight miles, and by tumbling a rock over the precipice at Lee's Ferry, you can plainly hear the echo down the river at Weaverville, a distance of thirty-six thirty-six miles.
