Commissioner Fink is trying to arrange a settlement of the transcontinental railroad trouble. The Atchison's proposition is that there should be a pool west of Ogden, composed of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa JFe, the Atlantic fc Pacifio, Southern Pacifio and Central Pacifio Pa-cifio railroads, and another east of Ogden of the Union Pacifio, Denver & Rio Grande and Texas & Paoifio and the Morgan line of steamers. The rates cannot possibly go any lower, and there will be no business for the roads when peace is declared, because every one who had any freight has sent it or arranged to send it. |
