It is understood under-stood that Sweeney is to remain permanently permanent-ly in the city, and that he will resume the practice of the law. Whether he will take a hand in politics or not the future will determine. de-termine. His . friends say he has carefully read the New York papers in his absence, and that no man is more conversant with municipal, state and national politics. They assert, however, that he will confine himself strictly to his law practiceand under no circumstances cir-cumstances take an - aotive part in political manoeuvres. For the last twelve years he has been a resident of Paris. It is understood that Sweeney has charge of the interests of well-known French capitalists capi-talists who are interested in mining operations opera-tions here, and that he is also concerned in the scheme for gridiron in g the Chinese em- Sire with railroads. The latter report is un-oubtedly un-oubtedly due to bis intimacy with the Marquis Mar-quis Tseng, the Chinese Embassador to the French Republic. - |
